Spun Products originated in 1971 by then owners, Al Weber and Sam Hanson. The two paired up together after a long stint of running Southwest Spun Products and decided to start their own metal spinning company. They began by producing spun parts in small garage in Gardena, and two years later found themselves in a 4,000 square foot building in the heart of Long Beach's industrial area.
IIn the early years, Spun Products began manufacturing wheels for the automotive and racing industries. They did work for companies such as Crager, Centerline, and American Wheel. At its peak, Spun Products was producing up to 500 wheels per week and running two shifts to accomplish it.
As companies found more innovative means of mass-producing wheels, Spun Products then turned its energy towards the Aerospace industry. In the late 70's Aerospace in the Long Beach area was booming, with McDonnell Douglas being the prime account. Spun Products manufactured detail parts for the MD 80, MD 90, MD 11, C-17 program, Delta II and several other Military Projects.
As years of Aerospace work progressed, Spun Products started tackling even more complex parts creating an niche in the industry by producing difficult to make spin formings from materials such as Inconel, Hastelloy, Haynes, and even Titanium.
In the 1985, cofounder Al Weber retired and sold his share of the business to Sam Hanson, but he left behind his only son Larry Weber who would in 1995 take over as owner of Spun Products, and thus create MLZ, Incorporated.
Today, Larry Weber and his two sons, Lawrence and Zachary, run Spun Products MLZ, Inc. and continue to service the Aerospace industry as well as groom quality spinners in a trade that has been deem a lost art form.
